After months of interviews by Lucy Garrighan, Jade CEO, Dan Garrighan, Jade Intake Coordinator, and Abbie Scanio, Jade Director of Operations, Heroins Siren Song: Addiction Battles a Thriving Family debuted in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Sunday, July 24th, 2011.
The piece illustrates a normal, upper middle class family, whom thought they had it all, until they learned of the disease addiction. The Story focuses on two brothers, John Garrighan and Dan Garrighan, and their struggles with the disease along with their different outcomes.
The piece depicts this disease can affect anyone. Furthermore, it shows the affects of the disease on the whole family, not just the addict. The Garrighan\'s goal was to bring awareness and addiction to the public eye. While nothing will ever make sense of John Garrighan\'s death to his family, this story is just the first of many as they wish to fulfill an internal obligation to the deceased son and brother through helping others and bringing addiction to the forefront.
